Raffle Ticket Sale 2011

Raffle Ticket Sale 2011 of The Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights has been launched on 17 May 2011. Money raised in the event will help to promote the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and advance children's rights in Hong Kong by conducting various campaigns and activities.

Hong Kong Children's Network

Children wish to make their voice stronger by joining hands to form the Hong Kong Children's Network. Initiated by The Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights, four children's groups including Kids' Dream, We 90s', YMCA Child Councilors and Tung Tau Caritas Ethic Minority Children & Youth Group have formed into an alliance in February 2011 to promote children's rights in HK with children's efforts. They met and exchanged their group's characteristics and activities, their strength and weaknesses, mingled and explored ideas of cooperation in future.

This initiative will not be made possible without the dedicated mentors from the supporting agencies of these children's groups. They included: Against Child Abuse, The Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association of Hong Kong, Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong (Hin Keng Centre), Tung Tau Caritas, and the trust and kind sponsorship of Save the Children.

Children's Rights Education

The Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights continues to share our knowledge on the application of the Convention on the Rights of the Child with both adults and children in HK. Here are some of the highlights in the recent months:

• 15 March 2011: Lecture on "Troubling Polices and Practices for Young Children in HK" for teachers and principals at the Hong Kong Institute of Education (Town Centre)
• 31 March 2011: Lecture on "Children's Rights and Children's Right to Participation" for students at the Hong Kong Institute of Education
• 4 April 2011: Children's Rights workshop with primary school children at Chan's Creative School (HK Island)
• 20 May 2011: Children's Rights workshop for children coming from the HK Evangelical Church School Services Team at HKCCR

Parent's Choice Award 2011

Thanks to "3Weekly x 味道family", The Hong Kong Committee on Children's Rights has been chosen as the beneficiary agency for the second time in their Parent's Choice Awards event. In the Parent's Choice Awards 2011 presentation ceremony on 6 May 2011, we were given an opportunity to introduce our mission and services with all the attending guests and members of the public at the Whampoa Fashion World. Our Chairman, Dr Chow Chun Bong also accepted a cheque presentation of $10,000 on behalf of the Committee from the editors of the periodicals.
